As the House Administration Committee prepares to hold its hearing on SB 97- the Gender Identity Nondiscrimination Act this Wednesday, the Equality Delaware field team has been working full out. The team has been talking to local business owners about SB 97, which will add gender identity into Delaware’s existing non-discrimination and hate crimes laws.
So far, nearly 200 Delaware businesses from Centreville to Rehoboth Beach have added their names to the list of Delaware businesses who support treating all Delawareans fairly.
This level of support from the local business community mirrors the support from corporate America. According to the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index 74% of Fortune 100 companies (most of them Delaware corporations) and nearly 60% of Fortune 500 companies (again, most of them Delaware corporations) already provide employment protections based on Gender Identity. These companies include well known Delaware employers like DuPont and Bank of America. Businesses large and small know that creating a workplace that values employees for what they can do is the way companies thrive.
