Passing HB75 would mean that all Delaware families would be valued and protected under state law -- but that's not the only benefit of passing this crucial legislation. Ending the exclusion of loving same-sex couples from marriage is good for business too.
Over the weekend, Southern Delaware Tourism -- the Convention and Visitors Bureau for Sussex County, Delaware -- endorsed the freedom to marry, noting the financial boost in the tourism industry that would result from extending marriage to gay and lesbian couples:
"With passage of HB75, a clear message of welcome from Delaware will be sent to out-of-state LGBT communities, which will create an enormous boost to the opportunities we have to increase tourism and wedding related business in Sussex County." -Scott Thomas, Executive Director
This isn't the first time a Delaware business has noted the economic benefits of marriage equality. Earlier this year, DuPont announced its support for the freedom to marry in Delaware. Representatives from the company have also testified before committees in the House and Senate to make the case that inclusion and fairness in our state laws will allow Delaware to better compete in the business environment.
