Hello. I am new to Equality Delaware, so I hope that I am doing this right, please forgive me if I am going about this the wrong way. I was referred to Equality Delaware by the National Center for Transgender Equality in regards to an issue that my Spouse Leena and I have been having. A little about me for background. I am a 38 year old Transgender Woman and I have been married for eight amazing years. When I came out as a Trans-Woman, I completed the entire process for fully, legally, transitioning to Female; name and gender change through the Courts, Social Security, the DMV, my ID and Birth Certificate, everything has been updated to Mira Tallie and Female, as it should be. When Leena and I went to Vital Statistics and the Justice of the Peace to change my name and Gender on our Marriage License and, thus, to change our marriage license to a Same Sex marriage license, we were told that doing so was impossible. The folks at Vital Stats and even the Justice of the Peace were in full support, they simply had no ability to make the needed changes. Apparently, there is nothing in their software that allows for this and no legislative president either. We reached out to a local Senator and even the Delaware Atterney General to see what could be done, with no response, so I wanted to reach out to you folks at Equality Delaware. With all of the work and support for Same Sex marriages and the LGBT community that you have given, I wanted to get in touch. EqualityDelaware is misguidingly overstepping its bounds regarding children, identity, and what is best for a child. A legislation that allows laws like your Regulation 225 discriminates against parents and religion. It pushes children towards a life of medication and surgery and dismisses self worth by telling children their body was made wrong. Let gay kids be gay and gender nonconforming without labels of “gender”, without societal rules of what behaviors belong to what gender.

As someone who has been proud to be liberal my entire life, I am disgusted by this legislation, frightened and saddened for our children and will not stand quietly on this. Progressive is not always progress. These legislators will be voted out. These doctors and therapists WILL be sued.

The interview I just saw is one of the most disturbing displays of overreach and child abuse I’ve ever experienced. You are all absolute garbage and I hope this is some weird joke.

In the event that it is not a joke the attempt to abuse our children will not go unchecked.

Just a quick note to thank the Board and staff of Equality Delaware and all supporters who made marriage equality in Delaware a reality. After 22 years of bliss, my spouse Marisa Chaves and I were united in marriage on April 16, 2014. We couldn’t have done so without your commitment to our equal rights. Thank you. :)
